Houston Gulf Freeway Car Accident Leaves 1 Fatality

The best Houston automobile law firms know that driving, although a daily habit for many Americans, also carries with it some risks. It is encouraging when an accident occurs to see a good Samaritan try to assist, but the events of an early morning crash today may leave some potential good Samaritans thinking twice.

According to the Houston Police Department at 12:30 a.m. on the Gulf Freeway at the Woodridge exit, a red pickup truck lost control and ran into the median guardrail. A passing driver pulled over and attempted to assist the driver of the crashed truck. The good Samaritan lent the crashed truck driver his cell phone to call for help.

While the pickup truck driver and good Samaritan were pulled over, another vehicle passing by crashed into the back of the two stopped vehicles. The impact of the crash killed the pickup driver at the scene, and the other two drivers were injured. The good Samaritan was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, and the driver of the third vehicle was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

This incident should not discourage people from helping other people who are in need, but Houston car accident lawyers would like to caution people when they stop their vehicles on the side of any road.  Stopping your vehicle on a major road or freeway is always dangerous, because passing cars and trucks are not expecting to see a stopped vehicle, and may crash into you. If you do have to stop on the side of a busy road, or do so in order to help someone, pull onto the shoulder and as far away from moving traffic as possible.
