DWI Suspected in Weekend Pile-Up on Sam Houston Tollway

The the best vehicle collision attorney in Houston know how deadly a chain reaction, freeway pile-up can be.  Vehicles move so quickly at the high speeds traveled on freeways that once a single accident occurs, frequently other vehicles are ensnared because there isn’t enough time to react and avoid the accident. This leads to a chain-reaction accident, of one car after another getting caught up in the commotion.

A weekend accident on the Sam Houston Tollway that was previously unsolved appears to be the result of a drunk driver. The crash occurred Saturday night at about 11:30 p.m. near the 3300 block of the North Sam Houston freeway. A Chevy Silverado was driving west on the tollway with it failed to slow as it approached a toll booth. The Chevy rear-ended the Pontiac directly in front of it, which in turn forced the Pontiac forward and into the car directly in front of it.

It was initially reported that there was one fatality as a result of the multi-car pile up, but another person who was taken to the hospital has since died, bringing the fatality tally to two. One of the passengers in the Pontiac died at the scene of the accident as a result of the impact. The other passenger was taken to a nearly hospital and later died. The two occupants of the Pontiac were brother and sister: Erica and Nick Montez.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the Chevy driver to the nearby Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Blood test performed at the hospital revealed a blood alcohol content that was twice the legal limit of the .08 that is the legal limit in Texas. The driver of the Chevy is 55 year old Barry Lewis Anderson. Upon his release from Memorial Hermann Hospital, authorities expect Lewis to be transported to Harris County jail and charged with two counts of felony manslaughter.
