Fatal Harris County Crash Kills Houston Motorcyclist

Houston automobile collision injury lawyers know that motorcycle drivers are at a much higher risk than drivers of other motor vehicles if an accident does occur. Because motorcycles offer little inherent protection, the results of a motorcycle accident are often fatal.

Early Sunday morning in northeast Harris County, a motorcycle driver was killed after a crash. The incident took place at about 12:30 a.m. on Beaumont Highway near Redwing. The driver, who has been identified as Patrick Morris, was riding down the highway when he struck the back of a Ford F-150 truck. Morris was thrown from the bike and landed in a drainage ditch, and died at the scene of the accident. He was not wearing a helmet.

According to Harris County deputies, the Ford driver was not injured in the crash.

Although Texas state law does not require motorcyclists to wear a helmet over the age of 21, Houston injury attorneys would like to encourage all motorcycle owners to wear helmets. Helmets are the only safety precaution a driver can take to protect themselves in case of an accident. Not wearing a helmet when operating a motorcycle is akin to not wearing a seat belt when driving a car: going without either device drastically increases your chance of serious injury, or ultimately a fatality, if you are involved in an accident.

You may be an excellent driver, but part of safety measures are taking precautions to protect yourself from other drivers on the road, who may not be competent drivers, or who may be under the influence of alcohol, or simply unpredictable. Despite the state of Texas not requiring adults to wear a helmet, it is your best protection against injury if you are involved in an accident.
