Man killed in two-vehicle wreck on Garth

A 24-year-old Baytown man was killed early Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident on Garth Road.

Jeremy Lyn Tillman, an electrician, was a passenger in a Hyundai Elantra being driven by a 21-year-old female. The car collided with a pickup truck about 9:45 a.m. in the 6300 block of Garth Road.

The Hyundai, which had been rented from Enterprise Rent-A-Car, was northbound on Garth. The driver attempted to turn into the rental agency’s driveway in front of the truck, which was southbound on Garth, police said.

The driver of the truck, a 63-year-old Highlands woman, did not have time to stop. The truck struck the passenger side of the car, where Tillman was sitting. He was ejected from the vehicle, police said.

The vehicles ended up nose to nose in the ditch that runs alongside Garth.

A 9-month-old boy who was in the back seat of the car escaped major injury, according to Baytown Police Lt. Eric Freed.

“He was strapped in his car seat like he should have been and the car seat worked like it was supposed to,” Freed said.

Emergency responders said the child had no visible injuries and seemed alert, but he was taken to a Houston hospital by a Life Flight helicopter as a precaution.

A private vehicle took the driver of the Hyundai to Baytown’s San Jacinto Methodist Hospital, according to Freed. Her injuries did not appear to be serious.

Tillman was pronounced dead on arrival at the Houston hospital.

Police did not say whether Tillman and the other occupants of the car were related.
