A Jefferson County woman blames the makers of an anti-psychotic drug for causing her 13-year-old son to lose the lower portion of his leg.

Family of woman killed in botched drug raid to receive $4.9 million
Atlanta, Georgia (CNN) -- The city of Atlanta will pay $4.9 million to the family of Kathryn Johnston, a 92-year-old woman killed in a botched November 2006 drug raid, Mayor Kasim Reed's office announced Monday.
Johnston was shot to death by narcotics officers conducting a "no-knock" warrant. Investigators later determined the raid was based on falsified paperwork stating that illegal drugs were present in the home. more...

Man Awarded $1.4 Million in Boy-Scouts Abuse Case

The U.S. government seeks a record $16.4 million fine against Toyota for allegedly hiding the "sticky pedal" defect that forced the recall of 2.3 million vehicles in late January. U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced Monday that the agency was seeking the maximum civil penalty against the Japanese automaker for ignoring the potential risk to millions of customers with sticking accelerator pedals. Zinc in denture adhesives unlikely to damage nervous system, doctors say
In the wake of news reports that the zinc found in many denture adhesives could lead to neurological problems, hundreds of denture wearers have been calling lawyers, hoping to join the growing number of suits filed against the makers of Super Poligrip and Fixodent.
One Houston firm representing 15 plaintiffs in denture adhesive suits has received about 150 inquiries, including several dozen from the Tampa Bay area, since separate stories about the lawsuits were published in the St. Petersburg Times and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram of Texas. more...

Lazy Landlord Cost Him Leg, Tenant Claims
HOUSTON - After his landlord refused to unclog his toilet, a man says, he cut himself while clipping his toenails, the wound became infected by contact with the contaminated carpet, gangrene developed and the lower part of his leg had to be amputated.

Man Paralyzed in School Incident Receives $14.7 Million Settlement
A Chicago man injured on a mini-trampoline when he was an eighth-grade student at a South Side elementary school 18 years ago has settled a lawsuit with the Chicago Board of Education and a private youth center for almost $14.7 million, his attorneys said Thursday.
Ryan Murray, who was 13 at the time, was injured in a tumbling class on Dec. 14, 1992, at what was then Bryn Mawr Elementary School, 7455 S. Jeffery Blvd., the attorneys said. more...

A 24-year-old Baytown man was killed early Tuesday in a two-vehicle accident on Garth Road.

Calling Someone "Gay" Still Defamatory in Texas
What one court has called “a veritable sea change in social attitudes about homosexuality” has evidently not reached Texas where a judge ruled that an airport security guard can sue a radio show host for calling him “gay” on the air.
Henry Robinson alleged the imputation that he is homosexual was defamatory as a matter of law in his suit against Rickey Smiley of the Dallas radio station known as “The Beat.” more...
